Getting started

Roles and where everyone works

The two roles in Clox and the three ways to clock in. Managers run the web. Crews clock in from their phones. A shared tablet is optional.

Managers run Clox on the web. Crews clock in from their phones. You approve and pay on Friday. That is the whole model. The rest of this page spells it out.

The two roles

Managers and owners run the business from the web app at app.getclox.com, on a computer or a phone browser. You set up projects, worksites, and pay rules, invite your crew and assign them to jobs, approve timesheets and fix mistakes, and export one file to payroll or sync to QuickBooks.

Crew clock in from their phones with a tap. They tap once to clock in and out, start and end breaks, switch jobs mid-shift, and see their schedule and past shifts. It works offline and syncs when signal returns.

Get the Clox app
On iPhone, your crew installs the Clox app from the TestFlight beta — you send them the invite link. Android is coming soon. On any phone, they can also clock in from the browser at app.getclox.com. Either way, they accept their invite, sign in, and tap Start.

The three ways to clock in

Most crews use the first one. The other two are there for the cases where a phone is not the right fit.

  1. Phone (the Clox app). The default. Each worker installs the Clox app (iPhone via the TestFlight beta now, Android coming soon), signs in, and taps Start. Works offline and syncs when signal returns.
  2. Web browser. Anyone can also clock in from a laptop or desktop at app.getclox.com. Handy for office staff or a worker without a smartphone who sits at a computer.
  3. Kiosk on a shared tablet. Optional. Mount one tablet on site and the whole crew punches in with a PIN. Good for crews without smartphones, with GPS and a photo to confirm who punched.

How it fits together

  1. You set up Clox on the web. Go to app.getclox.com, name your company, and add your projects and worksites.
  2. You invite your crew. Send each person a link. They sign up with their email in under a minute.
  3. Your crew clocks in from their phones. They install the Clox app (iPhone via TestFlight now, Android soon) or sign in from their phone browser, accept the invite, and tap Start.
  4. Hours land in one place. Punches sync as they happen, and queue up offline when there is no signal.
  5. You approve and pay on the web. Review the week, fix anything, and export one file to payroll.

Where to go next

Your first 10 minutes in Clox
The manager setup path: create your account, name your workspace, run a test shift, invite your team.
PIN kiosk mode (shared device)
Set up one tablet on site so a crew without smartphones can punch in with a PIN.
