PIN kiosk mode (shared device)

One tablet at the trailer, every employee punches in with their PIN. Built for crews where not everyone has a smartphone.

When to use it

Kiosk mode is for crews where:

  • Not everyone has a smartphone (apprentices, day laborers, older trades workers)
  • You'd rather have one device at the trailer than 20 personal phones
  • You want to confirm physical presence at the trailer when clocking in

Setting up kiosk mode

  1. Get a cheap tablet — any Android or iPad ≥$100 works
  2. Open app.getclox.com in the browser
  3. Sign in as a manager
  4. Navigate to Settings → Shift behavior → PIN kiosk mode
  5. Enable it. You'll see a kiosk URL.
  6. Open the kiosk URL on the tablet (consider adding it to the home screen)
  7. Set the tablet in a permanent spot at the trailer or shop

Setting employee PINs

Each employee gets a 4–6 digit PIN. They set it the first time they sign in to their own account from a phone, OR a manager can set it for them.

  • Manager view → click an employee → set/reset PIN
  • PINs are scrypt-hashed, never stored plain
  • Employees can also change their own PIN from Settings

How it works in the field

At the trailer tablet, the kiosk screen shows photos of every employee assigned to that worksite. Each employee:

  1. Taps their own photo
  2. Enters their PIN
  3. Picks a project (if required)
  4. Taps Clock in

Total elapsed time: 6 seconds. No login screen, no app install, no phone needed.

Security

  • The tablet has no manager access — only the clock-in/out kiosk screen
  • PINs lock out after 5 wrong attempts (5-minute cooldown)
  • Sessions auto-expire after 12 hours of inactivity
  • Manager can remotely sign out the kiosk from their own device if the tablet is lost
