PIN kiosk mode (shared device)

One tablet at the trailer, every employee punches in with their PIN. Built for crews where not everyone has a smartphone.

When to use it

Kiosk mode is for crews where:

  • Not everyone has a smartphone (apprentices, day laborers, older trades workers)
  • You'd rather have one device at the trailer than 20 personal phones
  • You want to confirm physical presence at the trailer when clocking in

Setting up kiosk mode

  1. Get a cheap tablet. Any Android tablet or iPad works (the kiosk runs in its browser, so there's no app to install)
  2. On that tablet, open app.getclox.com and sign in as a manager
  3. Go to Settings → Kiosk and turn kiosk mode on
  4. Tap Launch kiosk on the tablet. It becomes a locked clock-in screen
  5. Add it to the tablet's home screen and set it in a permanent spot at the trailer or shop

Setting employee PINs

Each employee gets a 4–8 digit PIN. They set their own from Settings → Account & security, or a manager can set or reset it for them.

  • Manager: Settings → Kiosk → set or reset a worker's PIN
  • PINs are scrypt-hashed, never stored in plain text
  • A PIN is only for the kiosk. It never locks an employee out of their own app

How it works in the field

At the trailer tablet, the kiosk screen lists your team by name. Each employee:

  1. Taps their name
  2. Enters their PIN
  3. Picks a project (if required)
  4. Taps Clock in

The whole thing takes a few seconds. No login screen, no app install, no phone needed.

Security

  • The tablet has no manager access, only the clock-in/out kiosk screen
  • A PIN locks out after 5 wrong tries within 15 minutes
  • The tablet stays enrolled for up to 14 days, then a manager re-launches the kiosk
  • Lost a tablet? A manager can reset all kiosks from Settings → Kiosk. It signs out every enrolled device at once
