Time Tracking for HVAC Techs: Service Calls and Installs on Different Math

Rule one: the punch happens at the point of work, not from memory

Rule two: tag the punch to the job so the day sorts itself

Rule four: set the overtime math once, per tech, and stop doing it by hand

HVAC schedules aren't clean. On-call weekends, a changeout that runs past six because the old unit fought back, a service tech who crosses forty on a heat wave week. Once every punch is tagged, the reports do the thing you actually bought time tracking for. On an install, you see actual labor hours against the estimated hours, per job, while it's still open. If the forty-hour changeout is at thirty-two hours and the ductwork isn't finished, you know today, not after you already ate the loss. One place worth naming the honest limit

A lot of HVAC shops want the clock-in tied to being at the customer's address, which is fair, and Clox can lock a punch to a worksite. But be clear-eyed about what that does.
